 | 05:47 pm - Sin City 8 Year Anniversary - 50% sold out!

All righty pervy partiers of Vancouver - here's your first of three advance notices of ticket sales activity for the upcoming Sin City 8 Year Fetish Sextravaganza on July 18!
Advance ticket sales are now 50% sold out!
Online ticket purchase link : http://www.wantickets.com?e_id=64345 Facebook Event Listing : http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=111096290420 Official afterparty info : http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=105504192609
Loads of people waited until the last regular Sin City party last Saturday to grab their advance tickets, but with the passing of that event, the remaining options for advance tickets are either picking them up at an advance ticket retailer, online, or at the door. Advance ticket locations can be found in the event listing linked above. We are only releasing 400 advance tickets, 200 of which have now been sold, and the remainder will sell very quickly now that we are in the last week before the event.
Don't wait and get caught without a ticket if you are thinking of attending - although you can absolutely count on getting a ticket at the door of the event on the day of, it's cheaper ahead of time, and though space always opens up as paid attendees leave and Richards can accomodate far more than 400 people over the course of the entire night, attendees buying tickets on the day of are subject to waits if the event is currently at capacity, or waits if they arrive during peak arrival times. Waits for the anniversary parties do not usually exceed 15 minutes at worst, but it's first come, first serve for entry, with entry priority always going to advance ticket holders!
* We will only be sending out two more ticket activity bulletins - one when we are at 75% sold out, and one when the event is fully sold out.
Also, if you think 2 AM is way too early to stop the partying, make sure and check out RED LIGHT DISTRICT, the official electro-sexual after party! Info behind the link listed above!
See you there at one or both parties, and thank you from Sin HQ for eight years of unforgettable events!

 | 04:25 pm - And away we go! Burgundy and I will be packing our bags tonight and heading up to the interior with the band early tomorrow morning. Ugh, something about meeting at 9AM and driving up to Nakusp isn't the all-encompassing glamour I had pictured, but then again, it can't be champagne and roses ALL the time...
Kitty Nights was a blast last night and I was so proud that I didn't let my drink get away from me. I have a bad habit of not being able to leave the Biltmore sober, but these days I'm the picture of control and anal-rententativness...
Off to clean the house and continue my high-glamour tradition... Current Location: Casa De Risk

 | 03:14 pm - Forensic Ageing on Michael Jackson vs. (un)Reality (and surgery)

As a photographer I peruse websites on photographic techniques and was just looking at a site on forensic ageing and came across a forensically aged image of Michael Jackson based on childhood pictures of him by forensic artist Stephen Mancusi. The image on the left is Michael Jackson forensically aged to 45. The image on the right is much-worked-upon real Michael Jackson at about the same age. |

 | 02:32 pm - Sin City 7 Year Anniversary Party Video Just to get you even more psyched for the Sin City 8 Year Anniversary Party looming large in just seven short days, here's the video from the SEVEN DEADLY SINS anniversary party last year!
Also, a friendly reminder -- DON'T DELAY in getting your tickets to the GLITZ & GLAM 8 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY and / or the RED LIGHT DISTRICT official after party - they're way cheaper in advance, and they bring line priority at the door with them!
Every year people wait until the last second ... don't make us have to spank you for the wrong reasons!

 | 10:54 pm - More From 1992

Cathedral Place (left) has only just replaced the old Art-Deco glory of the Medical Arts Building as a monument of fibreglass, post-Modern crap (can you tell I don't like that building?) There is no Olympic countdown clock in front of the VAG. Eaton's is still Canadian and spelled with capital letters. There are no towers in Yaletown and the Expo '86 site is still a vacant wasteland while Concord Pacific and the provincial government argue over who should pay for the site remediation. And if you look at False Creek at the far right of the picture you can just make out a white smudge that is the ill-fated McBarge, which now floats derelict in the Burrard Inlet. Oddly enough I happen to own a complete set of blueprints to the McBarge. |

Looking the other way we see, a surprising amount of nothing. The Qube is still an office tower housing Westcoast Energy. There is no BC Gas/Terasen Building yet (CORRECTION: the BC Gas Building was there as of 1992, it's just blocked in this view by the MacBlo building.) Only one apartment tower has been built west of the venerable Banff apartments (painted white at this point). The "waffle building" still belongs to MacMillan Bloedel which, like Eaton's, hasn't been bought by Americans yet. The Royal Bank tower, to the left, is still the tallest building in Vancouver. |

 | 10:54 am - Musicians Beware!
While sipping a cup of hot chai and reading the news on CBC.ca this morning, I came across this interesting article titled, "United Breaks Guitars". With a title like that, I was caught hook, line and sinker having just did a long plane trip with a whole lot of gear and about to do another one soon. The article can be read here. I know that United after all this is just trying to dodge the bad PR bullet but it's too little, too late. And after all is said and done, at the end of the article, they still don't come out and say, "Shit, we screwed up. We're going to replace your guitar. We're sorry." Nope. Not a whisper. I dated a fellow who worked as a swamper in the summer, tossing baggage for cruise lines. "Tossing" being the operative word in that sentence... While these two poor guys had to watch their gear getting thrown around, I've never had to. I don't really want to, either. Not much can be done to change an airlines policies, but I'm pretty pleased that these guys made the video and were able to attract so much attention to their plight. I swear to god though, an airline pulls that move on me, they're going to have a serious flash mob situation on their hands.... -LMR

 | 04:25 pm - Vintage Glamour I finished a necklace recently that I'd like to share with you. kambriel sent me some vintage crystal beads that I believe belonged to her grandmother (K can correct me on this); most of the beads were donut-shaped and pretty large. I wanted to make it in such a way that the crystal beads did not touch each other so as to avoid scratching, but also so the huge donut shapes (some almost 3/4" in diameter) didn't look odd on a relatively short 3-strand necklace. So I interspersed them with lots of different antiqued pewter beads & caps to give it a deliberate chunky feel, adding in a few small crystal beads in here and there where needed. Pictures really don't do it justice - the quality of this crystal is outstanding.
There were a few odd beads remaining that I made into a matching single-strand bracelet (no pics of that yet though because it's really hard to get a good shot).
( The photos are big so they're both behind the cut... ) Current Mood: satisfied

 | 08:24 pm Earlier today along a road high above an awesome panorama of water, rock, and sky, to my right arose to hover just above me a pair of hawks. They seemed to be regarding each other and then taking in the landscape, looking far into the scene and not apparently scanning for a meal below. I wonder if they were just out for a joy ride. I wonder if hawks are moved to awe too.
